Cold, snowy weather will persist in Boulder through the weekend and into early next week.

More than half a foot of snow fell in the city by Wednesday evening, according to the National Weather Service. Thursday’s temperatures were predicted to remain frigid with a high of only 6 degrees during the day.

Chances for snow Thursday will rise from 10 percent to 20 percent as temperatures drop to a low of -7 degrees during the evening hours. The high for the weekend is not expected to surpass the teens, according to the weather service’s seven day forecast.

“As someone who grew up in San Diego, I don’t really check the weather,” said senior theater major Brendan Milove, 21. “I just look out the window. So I’m wearing some wet Converse and wet socks. I don’t have snow boots, I just layer socks and hope for the best.”

Freezing temperatures can easily cause frostbite to exposed toes, ears and fingers. Prolonged exposure to cold temperatures can cause hypothermia and be deadly. To avoid these conditions, the weather service advises residents to stay warm and dry indoors and to wear several layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing when going outdoors. However, if you get frostbitten, you may need to seek medical treatment from facilities like https://burncenters.com/burns/burn-services/frostbite/.

But not all Buffs are complaining.

“It’s pretty enjoyable for cold weather; it’s not that miserable bone chilling cold,” said sophomore theater major Kaitlyn Malone, 19. “I plan to go snowboarding this weekend.”
