CUIndependent.com is excited to introduce a new tool to let students know what they’re getting into before they sign up for a class – the CUI grade database.
In brief, we’ve compiled data about every class at CU over the past year (spring and fall 2013). You can look up info regarding the grades given out, how much time per week students said they spent on the class and how big the classes were. And all of this is organized by the class number, course name and instructor.
Users can search for anything in the table or sort it by column, but with more than 6,000 classes, you’d be better suited searching for something then sorting the table.

Each class in our database was pulled directly from CU’s Office of Planning and Budgetary Analysis grade distribution data, which is publicly available for download here.
We decided to cut down the data from more than 44,000 classes starting in fall 2006 to just the past year, because instructors come and go, syllabi change and curricula get updated.
We used a jQuery javascript library called DataTables. From there we used a bit of PHP to query a MySQL database. You can see the full source code here.
