CU Student Government Finance Board proposed on Wednesday a 3.13 percent increase in student fees next year, which would raise each student’s tab an estimated $12.55.
CUSG allocated $15,938,387 in student fees in fiscal year 2013-2014. Starting in July, the beginning of the new fiscal year, Finance Board advised Legislative Council to increase it to $16,758,117.
Last year, student fees increased about $6.
Of the $819,730 proposed increase in total student fees for fiscal year 2014-15, the UMC would receive $641,146.
Executives in CUSG Proper requested and received in the proposal an additional $31,667.86 for their own salaries.
Keegan McCaffrey, chair of Finance Board, said the salary increase complies with CUSG Proper governing documents.
The board proposed an increase of $10,286 to support club sports, which would eliminate the $5 participation fee students currently pay to be involved in club sports.
For the first time, Legislative Council cannot distribute more money this year than is included in Finance Board’s proposal. They can cut from or meet it, but not exceed it.
The council looks to approve a 2014-2015 budget next Thursday.
