After battling with cancer for over a year, University of Colorado track runner Kyle MacIntosh passed away Thursday at the age of 23.
Posts supporting MacIntosh and his family flooded social media, with alums and students alike sending their condolences. The senior came to CU by way of Littleton, Colo., where he still holds the LHS record in the 300 meter hurdle.
His illness sidelined him for a year, and he was granted an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA. Although he went through multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, MacIntosh never lost his fighting spirit, with the goal of competing in hurdles and sprints in the spring. The runners goal was to reach the finals of the Pac-12 Conference Hurdles for the second time. He qualified for the first time in 2012.
MacIntosh passed Thursday afternoon in Aurora Children’s Hospital surrounded by friends and family, who never left him after he was admitted to the hospital on December 26th for a brain aneurysm. Funeral arrangements for the CU athlete will be announced at a later date.
