Lori Bergen has been named as the first dean of CU’s new college of media, communication and information (CMCI), according to a news release from CU.
“Lori Bergen exemplifies the desired qualities of a founding dean,” CU provost Russell Moore said in the release. “She not only has a distinguished record of leadership, teaching, scholarly research and creative work, but in her short time on campus, she has articulated a strong and clear vision for the future of the college.”
Bergen is currently the dean of the J. William and Mary Diederich college of communication at Marquette University, where she has worked since 2009.
“I am excited by the chance to lead this new college — a distinctive, innovative and entrepreneurial enterprise where students will engage with world-class faculty to learn, create and analyze media content in all its many forms,” Bergen said in the release. “The college will establish a new standard for teaching and scholarship in communication, media and information, and I’m looking forward to being a part of that.”
Bergen holds a Ph.D in mass communication from Indiana University-Bloomington, and a master’s degree in journalism from Kansas state University, where she also received a bachelor’s degree in history and political science.
Bergen will replace interim dean Christopher Braider.
