The parents of a missing CU Boulder student were on campus Monday to spread word and put up flyers about their son, Berry Tyler Allen, who was reported missing on Saturday, April 18.
Allen is 20 years old, 6 feet tall, around 140 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes. He sometimes wears thin glasses.
Allen goes by “Tyler,” and was last heard from on Thursday, April 16, at 1:57 p.m. in a text message to one of his roommates: “Oh, I’m alright, spent one night with a friend and one all nighter at [Norlin] library.” That text explained his whereabouts on Tuesday and Wednesday, and was traced by Allen’s phone service provider to the area around Folsom Field on the CU campus. Another roommate says the last time he was seen at their house was Monday, April 13.
Allen’s parents, Berry and Sheryl Allen, said that he swiped his Buff Onecard into Macky Auditorium’s main entrance on Sunday, April 12th, but did not get in; he does not have access to the building on his card. Allen is in CU’s University Choir and has a class in Macky. He attended choir practice on the night of April 13, according to his parents.
On Monday, Allen’s parents met with Hans Foote, CU’s senior case manager under the Dean of Students. The parents then came to Norlin Quad to distribute flyers about their son with the help of his creative writing classmates and class teacher’s assistant.
One classmate, who asked not to be identified, said that Allen came to class about 45 minutes late on April 13. The students started putting up flyers at 3:30 p.m. today, and plan to put them up on Pearl Street.
Allen’s parents talked to CU Police Department officers on Norlin Quad at around 2 p.m. The officers were already on campus to patrol for 4/20. The Boulder Police Department, which has jurisdiction over the case, issued a press release earlier Monday.
Allen is a communications major who transferred to CU in January from Clemson University in South Carolina. He is a second-year student and lives off campus.
“He’s a pretty outspoken, vibrant kid,” said Allen’s classmate. Allen also plays guitar. He does not have a car or a bicycle. He enjoys hiking, and went to Chautauqua Park on Saturday, April 11 with a roommate and a friend.
