The Colorado women’s tennis team lost at Portland this Sunday after coming off its first Pac-12 road win this year against No. 41 Oregon on Friday.
The Buffs defeated Oregon 4-3, which was both their highest-ranked Pac-12 win since joining the conference, and their highest-ranked win overall since a 2009 win over No. 38 UNLV. However, CU couldn’t build off of their win at Oregon and fell to Portland 4-0 in a non-conference matchup.
Colorado went 0-2 in doubles play and 0-3 in singles play.
CU started the day slowly, losing the doubles point to Portland during the second and third match. Freshmen Annabelle Andrinopoulos and Brigitte Beck lost 6-1 during the second match and sophomore Kyra Wojcik and senior Alex Aiello lost 6-3 in the third.
This edged Portland to a 1-0 lead over Colorado heading into singles play. Singles play wasn’t much better for Colorado, which lost the first three matches of six.
Junior Nuria Ormeño Ruiz lost her first set of the first match, 6-2, but bounced back in the second set, winning 6-3. However, Portland’s Lucia Butkovska won the third and final set 6-2, giving the Pilots the first singles win of the day.
Sophomore Jeannez Daniel lost both of her first two sets 6-3 during the second single match of the day. Andrinopoulos competed in the third single match on Sunday and fell 6-3, 6-1.
Colorado now holds a record of 7-14 (2-7 Pac-12) after Sunday’s loss.
The Buffs will play at home on Saturday, April 16 at 11:00 a.m. in their final conference game of the year against the Utah Utes.
