Incumbents Democrats Rep. Jared Polis and Sen. Michael Bennet won re-election on Tuesday in the House and Senate, respectively.
Polis won by a resounding margin, garnering 57.2 percent in the election for Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District. It will be his fifth consecutive term in Congress.
Bennet’s race was not as close. He only won 49.9 percent of the vote, while third-party candidates won about 4.4 percent of the total vote. The previous term was Bennet’s first in office.
Nicolas Morse was Polis’ opponent in CD-2. Morse held the GOP ticket. His chance of winning the race was slim from the outset. The district has swung liberal for the last few elections. It also houses Boulder County, which traditionally votes heavily for Democrats.
Darryl Glenn also faced an uphill battle. Bennet polled very well early on, and Glenn had trouble regaining ground.
