A GoFundMe page created for the CU student who fell 60 feet in Gregory Canyon earlier this week has already managed to raise half of its $50,000 goal.
The student, identified as 19-year old sophomore Zach Ramirez, is stable but ‘in a fight for his life’ after sustaining severe head trauma from the fall.
The Daily Camera, who first reported the story, wrote that the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said Ramirez was climbing near The Amphitheater rock formation in Gregory Canyon around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday when he fell. He had been free climbing without a helmet or safety gear.
According to the GoFundMe page, “after a multi-hour operation, the [Rocky Mountain Rescue Group] was able to get Zach off the mountain and transported to the nearest hospital. When Zach arrived, he received two life-saving surgeries addressing the severe head trauma he had suffered.”
“Although he is currently stable, Zach is still in a fight for his life as he battles the swelling of his brain and a multitude of other severe injuries to his body.”
