On Tuesday, Sept. 10, the third annual CU Bike Fest will take over Farrand Field from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Whether you’re an avid biker or curious about the sport, CU Bike Fest will have something for you. Bike enthusiasts and experts will be at the ready to talk about different forms of biking and help with bike maintenance. The event is put on by the Environmental Center and features a variety of vendors.
Tuesday’s event will also mark the first of five opportunities for students to try out e-scooters as part of a study by the City of Boulder, the University of Colorado Boulder and the Boulder Chamber. In May, the city placed a temporary moratorium on issuing business licenses to e-scooter companies in Boulder. The five studies will look to determine if having e-scooters will help the city’s 2019 Transportation Master Plan. The other study dates are listed below:
- Sept. 16 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. next to the Dushanbe Teahouse (1770 13th St.).
- Sept. 17 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. next to the Dushanbe Teahouse (1770 13th St.).
- Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Flatirons Business Park (corner of Flatiron Parkway and Central Avenue).
- Sept. 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Center for Community (2249 Willard Loop Drive).
The field will be packed with tents from local bike shops, restaurants, cycling community advocates and more. There will be food, music and free T-shirts.
For those looking to buy a used bike, CU’s Used Bike Sale will begin at 6 p.m., though it is better to arrive early. All bikes for sale have been collected from deserted bikes left on racks on campus. Payments will be cash or check only with prices ranging from $100 to $160. Tickets will be passed out to those lined up starting at 5 p.m. to ensure their chance at a bike. If there are 100 bikes, 100 tickets will be passed out to those in line. At 5:45 there will be an auction of 10-12 higher-quality bikes.
