A fire started in a bedroom at Bear Creek Apartment B, a campus residential building primarily housing upperclassmen on Wednesday. The apartment-wide alarm sounded at 1:44 a.m., and residents were evacuated for nearly two hours before being allowed back inside.
The cause of the fire is still underdetermined, but fire officials at the scene confirmed that the fire was contained to a bedroom.
Ben Davidson, a third-year computer science student, grabbed his accordion while evacuating and brought entertainment to residents gathered both inside the neighboring Weber Hall and outside. He drew a crowd of about 20 people who clapped and danced along.
“The fire alarm went off, and I was like, ‘I have to grab the most important thing,’” Davidson said. “Us accordion players, we can’t help ourselves.”
