According to the police department, he is believed to be the only shooter. [Nov. 1, 12:22 p.m.] One University of Colorado Boulder student is dead and another is in critical condition following a reported shooting Saturday night at a house near the intersection of 7th Street and Marine Street. The two 19-year-old men were transported to Boulder Community Hospital at 11:40 p.m. by ambulance.
Police contacted the University Hill house following a noise complaint just before 10 p.m., which was the house’s first warning. Police then arrived at the scene after 10 p.m. and issued a nuisance party ticket. Between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m., police took a highly-intoxicated person into custody and issued a ticket to the party’s organizers, who had registered the party with the university. Shortly after, at 11:28 p.m., the first reports of a shooting was called in.
“This is an incredibly tragic and upsetting incident,” Boulder Chief of Police Stephen Redfearn said at a press conference. “We do not regularly have gun violence in Boulder and we know how shocking and devastating this is for everyone involved. Everyone in our community, especially our young adults should feel safe to gather without fear of gun violence. We are committed to finding those responsible for this heinous crime.”
According to Redfearn, detectives have identified two persons of interest. Police have no information indicating whether the suspects are still in Boulder and are continuing to investigate several leads. Both BPD and the University of Colorado Boulder’s Police Department presence will remain active around the University Hill area.
Anyone with information regarding the incident or with photo and video footage is encouraged to contact BPD at 303-441-3333 or submit any tips through their evidence submission portal and reference case 26-10148.
