The CU women’s tennis team served up aces against rival Colorado State University. The Buffaloes beat the Rams 6-1 at the Meadows Club in Boulder.
The Buffs have never lost to the Rams, holding a 26-0 all-time record. Colorado is now 3-2 overall on the season.

In the event, CU won its first doubles point all season. All of CU’s doubles teams found victory with Julyette Steur and Kristina Schleich kicking things off with an 8-4 win. Winde Janssens and Carla Manzi Tenorio won 8-3 in the number two doubles slot. Erin Sanders and Ashley Tiefel rounded out the doubles matches with an 8-2 win over CSU siblings team Adriana and Veronika Wojakowska.
“We’ve worked really hard on (improving) our doubles play over the last couple of weeks,” CU head coach Nicole Kenneally said to the CU Sports Information Department. “The girls looked a lot more confident and comfortable out there on the doubles court tonight, and it is good for us to see that hard work paying off.”
Schleich also had a strong performance in her singles match. She defeated CSU’s Tori Arneson, 6-0, 6-0. This was the first time this season a Buff won in straight sets without dropping a game.
The Buffs easily wrapped up the win with Janssens, Steur, Sanders and Manzi Tenorio all winning their singles matches.
Sanders is the lone Coloradan on the squad, but coach Kenneally wants her team to keep in-state rivalries in mind. After taking on the University of New Mexico Lobos, the Buffs will return to Boulder to face Northern Colorado University and the University of Denver.
“Because a lot of the girls are not from Colorado, they may not totally feel what that CU-CSU rivalry is all about, or playing other teams from this state, so we talked about it in order to make sure they realized it was an important match to win, just like they all are,” Kenneally said.
