The female sprinters came out strong on Saturday at the Colorado Invitational in Boulder.
Even without their top runner, freshman Eileen Gehring, the Buffaloes took the top five spots in the 200-meter dash. They were led by freshman Bridget Sweeney, who crossed the line in a time of 25.06 seconds. Not far behind were teammates freshman Lindsy Mattson, redshirt junior Brianne Beemer, sophomore Genny Mayden and senior Katie Dreher, who all finished within a fraction of a second of Sweeney.
Sweeney and Mattson showed their strength again by running the 400-meter dash. The pair went 1-2, running 56.47 and 56.69, respectively.

In the women’s 800-meter run, senior Katie Cumming ran away from the field, winning the event by over four seconds in a personal best time of 2:12.99.
Shalaya Kipp, a junior and NCAA All-American, took top honors in the 1,500-meter run, narrowly edging out former Buffalo Laura Thweat. Kipp’s winning time of 4 minutes, 27.35 seconds was only two seconds off of the facility record.
On the field, jumpers Katie Dreher and redshirt junior Alyssa Frank both eclipsed 5 feet, 7inches, good enough for first and second place.
On the men’s side, the sprinters also looked strong.
In the 100-meter dash, junior Joe Morris took second place behind former Buffalo and 2011 World Championships participant Jeremy Dodson. The two ran 10.36 and 10.42.
Morris was edged out by Dodson again in the 200-meter dash, running a 20.97 to Dodson’s 20.60.
Junior Kyle MacIntosh and sophomore Tyler Baker ran strong in the 400-meter hurdles. Macintosh’s time of 52.63 was only 0.2 seconds off his personal best and fast enough for first place. Baker finished in second place, running a 53.50. The pair were nearly three seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
In the men’s 800-meter run, sophomore transfer from the University of North Carolina, Jake Hurysz, debuted strong. Running unattached, Hurysz managed a third place finish in a blazing 1:52.11. Also running in the event unattached was freshman Connor Winter. His time of 1:54.42 was good enough for 8th place.
The distance team followed suit and ran strong in the 1,500 meters. Sophomore Blake Theroux ran 3:55.66 on his way to a first place finish. Rounding out the top four were senior Jonny Stevens (3:56.54), former Buff Matt Tebo (3:57.55) and freshman Pierce Murphy (3:58.03).
The Buffaloes are in action again next weekend at the Mount San Antonio College (SAC) Relays in Walnut, Calif. Mount SAC is one of the biggest track meets of the spring, so look for a lot of fast times and personal bests to come out of next weekend.
