The volleyball team fell to Stanford University Saturday in three straight sets (17-25, 19-25, 21-25), making this the team’s second loss in a row. The loss leaves Colorado with an 11-5 overall record and puts them at 3-3 in the Pac-12.
Junior outside hitter Taylor Simpson and sophomore outside hitter Alexis Austin fought hard for their team, recording 10 kills apiece. The two got some help from seniors outside hitter Kerra Schroeder and middle blocker Nikki Lindow, who each had six kills. Schroeder had eight digs, and Lindow had one of the five blocks for the Buffs.
While the Buffs were swept in three sets to the No. 8 team, CU got better as the game went on. In the first set, the Buffs were 12 for 32, .219 in kills, and they finished with five errors, their highest number of errors of the match.
In the second game, the team improved slightly, only making three errors and improving from a .41 side out percentage to .43. The Buffs played tough the last game and keep it close throughout the set. The Buffs smacked down 11 of Stanford’s 31 kill attempts and only made two total errors.
Stanford had an impressive performance. The Cardinals had two players over .500 in attack as they recorded 49 kills to the Buffs 35. Carly Wopat and Rachel Williams were the stars for Stanford, each having 10 kills along with serving aces for both players. Inky Ajanaku, Brittany Howard and Jordan Burgess each did their share, contributing nine kills of their own.
The Buffs take on the University of Oregon Ducks on Friday. This will be the team’s third straight road game.
