Over 800 University of Colorado students attended the annual Leeds Career Fair on Wednesday at the University Memorial Center. One hundred nine companies were present and interested in hiring students for internships and full-time positions.

Among these were big-name companies such as Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, Apple and PepsiCo.

The career fair helps build a bridge between students and potential employers, making it easier to build networking connections and create professional relationships. Molly King, a 21-year-old business student focusing on Human Resources, felt that the fair is also a great way to practice for future endeavors.

“It is really good experience just walking around and having to present yourself to people,” King said. “You also have to differentiate yourself from every other business student out there looking for the same positions.”

Not only does this event connect CU students to their dream companies, but it creates an atmosphere open to feedback. Chelsea Lines, content manager at Crispin Porter and Bogusky, said that most companies look for students who know the meaning of teamwork. They must be able to show that they have worked in collaborative projects and apply what they have learned to real-life situations.

PepsiCo representative Julian Ybañez also talked about the advantage of participating in this event. According to Ybañez, the company usually hires for their open sales positions and internships straight out of the career fair.

“We look for people who are passionate about people and passionate about sales,” Ybañez said.
