The University of Colorado football team has dismissed quarterback Cade Apsay for violating team policies, head coach Mike MacIntyre announced in a press conference Tuesday morning.

The team also dismissed defensive back Evan White.

Apsay saw playing time as a redshirt freshman last season in relief of the injured Sefo Liufau. He replaced Liufau on Nov. 13 against the USC Trojans and nearly led the Buffs to an upset win. Apsay started Colorado’s final two games, but was ineffective in a blowout loss at Washington State and was replaced by Jordan Gehrke in the Buffs’ season-ending defeat at Utah.

Apsay finished the season completing 64.1 percent of his passes for 582 yards, three touchdowns and five interceptions, at only a little more than six yards per attempt.

Liufau is still recovering from the foot injury that led Apsay to replace him; right now, Texas Tech transfer Davis Webb, who will arrive in the fall, will compete with redshirt freshman Steven Montez for the starting job.

White, who was also dismissed for violating team policies, played in eight games as a freshman in 2014, recording 31 tackles. He had only five tackles in three games in 2015.
