CU tennis continues to struggle in Arizona

The Colorado women’s tennis team has had a hard time competing in the Pac-12 Conference this season. Over the weekend, the Buffs’ struggles continued.

The Buffs were shut out by the University of Arizona in Tucson, Ariz. on Friday, losing 7-0. On Saturday, the Buffs nearly pulled off a big upset against No. 30 Arizona State University but fell just short of their first Pac-12 victory and lost 4-3.

CU head coach Nicole Kenneally told the CU Sports Information Department that her team needs to play smarter to keep up with the Pac-12 powerhouses.

“The competition we are facing match-in and match-out is very tough,” Kenneally said. “It’s the most competitive conference in the country. We need to reduce our errors and continue to force them into tough and tight situations.”

Even with the Sun Devils forfeiting a point on Saturday due to injury, they still showed that they were the dominant team. Arizona State boasts a seasoned Pac-12 tennis program, a position that the Buffaloes will strive for in the future as they wrap-up this season and prepare for next year.

The CU women head to Salt Lake City to cap off their regular season against No. 44 University of Utah at 11 a.m. MST next Saturday, April 21. The Buffs then travel to Ojai, Calif., for the Pac-12 Conference Tournament from April 26 to 29.
