The Buffs’ men’s golf team had a very disappointing final day at the 23rd Annual Hawai’i-Hilo Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawai’i. Out of the 20 teams participating in the season opening tournament the Buffs took 17thplace.

No.6 Washington and No. 7 UCLA tied to win the event at 22-under par. CU came into the day in 15 place but shot the worst team score of any team on the final day and finished 25-over par for the tournament.
Playing in nearly perfect weather on Hawaii’s big island the top finisher for the Buffs was senior Jason Burstyn who was just three strokes out of the lead before the day started. After four double bogeys though, Burstyn finished 2-over par and in 49th place. Auburn’s Dominic Bozzelli won the individual honors with a final total at 11-under par.
The next closest Buff was senior Derek Fribbs who walked away in 60th place with a total score 4-over par.
This was a telling tournament as eight Pac—12 teams were in attendance and the Buffs finished worst of all of them. They have a lot of work to do if they expect to make the postseason this year.
The Buffs will next travel to Southern California in two weeks to play in The Prestige at PGA West.
